Home Improvement Tips To Help You Out | 2leep.in - Free Article ...

If you have popcorn on your ceiling, get rid of it. The popcorn ceiling look was very popular in the 60?s and 70?s but now it just looks dated. You can find solutions that will soften the texture allowing you to scrape it away. It?s a simple change but it can really bring your house firmly into the new century.

To increase energy efficiency and save significantly on your utility bills, consider replacing single pane windows with newer energy efficient ones. The investment you make in new windows now will easily pay for itself over time as your utility bills will be lower and, of course, your home will be more comfortable.

Talk to neighbors and look for signs of new construction before moving into a new neighborhood. You don?t want to end up living across from the newest McMansion. Find out the chances of the neighborhood changing and what the trends are before buying. The gorgeous hill view from the kitchen might become a new subdivision before you know it.

Don?t spend more on your improvements and repairs than is necessary. Some people become obsessed with making an area exactly how they would like it and don?t review the associated cost. Unless you plan to spend a long time in your home, don?t overspend on your changes. You may end up losing money if you do.

Making your home improvements energy efficient will be good for the environment and for your bills. You should use money to block drafts, seal windows, and insulate walls before doing any aesthetic renovations and then take the money you save on your bills and put it away towards the renovations you dream of.

Do you have home improvement projects that are beyond your skill level or that require more time than you have available? Your best solution might be to try a reputable handyman service. Ask them for references to see if they provide the standard of work that you need. They are usually a more cost-effective solution than hiring a contractor for the job.

Once you?ve checked the flapper valve, if the toilet is still running, check the chain. If the length of the chain linking the arm lever to the flapper valve is too short, water will keep running from the tank, as there would be no seal. To remedy this, simply remove the old chain and attach a longer one from a hardware store.

In order to properly renovate your kitchen when taking on a home improvement project, it is important that you shut off the water. If any accidents happen such as accidentally hitting a pipe, the mistake of flooding the whole kitchen can be prevented. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Children can easily climb out of windows or doors and harm themselves. Oftentimes, children think of ways to escape out of doors and crevices before you do. Make sure to keep your child safe by installing window and door safety locks that only your or older children are able to open.

After a painting project it is important to clean and store your paintbrushes properly. Wash your paintbrushes, comb the bristles with a stiff comb and place them in the original packaging so they keep the right shape. If you take the time to do this then your paintbrushes will be in great shape the next time that you need them.

If your home was built in the seventies or earlier, chances are good that it was built with only a very thin layer of insulation throughout the entire structure. Ideally, the layer should be approximately 27 centimeters or 10.5 inches thick. By increasing the thickness of insulation to the recommended four to six inches, you could easily save a couple of hundred dollars per year.

If your home improvement project involves moving appliances or other furniture in your house, make sure to put something down to protect your floors. Particularly if you have hardwood flooring, taking out large items can make a big mess and scratch up your flooring. Taking a few minutes to protect your floors can save you a lot of money in the long run.

When it comes to home improvement, take your current space into consideration before adding on with new construction. It may be much more cost effective to convert either an attic or basement into living space. Added costs come into play when you have to add more to your foundation or roof area.

Doing home improvement projects yourself can be fun and rewarding. The key is to find the proper information that will help map out a plan for your project, and follow it precisely from beginning to end. This will cut down on the errors that may crop up otherwise.

Thanks for checking out this post. I?ve written and published quite a lot of others as well. If you want to check them then you need to pay a visit to this page relating to verbtensolent1973.typepad.com. Select a Suitable Golf Club

Golf clubs are sold in sets and individually. For beginning players, the set of clubs provides a good selection of what is needed to start in a package that is normally priced nicely. Before choosing a set of golf clubs honestly assess your playing interest in the game. You may want to start out with a lower priced set until you determine if you like the game enough to play often. All golf manufacturers offer golf club sets. The typical set of golf clubs consists of one or two woods, a driver, 4 irons a putter and a sand wedge or pitching wedge. The most used irons are the 3, 5, 7 and 9 irons. Most beginning players won't notice much difference between the others.

Clubs are made with different materials for the shafts. The material determines how the club will react and how much flexibility there is in the club. Graphite shafts are lightweight and can help add speed to the swing. They have a softer flex and are a good choice for junior players as well as women. Steel shafts are stiff and offer no give. Yet steel is more durable and stronger. You'll also find clubs made from other materials. Golf clubs prices range from inexpensive to very expensive. Most beginning golfers should opt for the lower to mid price ranges. As you learn more about the game and how you play you can add more clubs to your bag. Choose a putter that feels good to you.

There are many choices out there ranging from the traditional to the ergonomic. The easiest to line up and use to start with is the traditional putter. Choose one that feels good in your hands. Swing the clubs before you buy them. Many golf shops offer practice swinging areas where you can actually try out the clubs to evaluate them before making a choice.

Always test the clubs out before purchasing them. You never know how they will feel to you. Sometimes the shaft is too thick or too narrow for your grip, making it difficult to hold the clubs comfortably. Remember that the grips are something that can easily be changed. Most avid golfers need to replace the grips yearly. Men's golf clubs are designed to fit men whose height is 5' 10". If your height varies considerably from this standard you may need to get your clubs customized. Club fitting is getting clubs custom sized to your specific needs. A golf pro helps determine your measurements.

Women's clubs are designed for a more petite frame, as are junior golf sets. Always choose the set of clubs that is most comfortable and matches your swing no matter what they are called. Women should always purchase lady's clubs.

Manufacturers are always coming out with new designs and new materials for golf clubs. A new golfer need not be concerned with cutting edge technology when it comes to clubs. Instead, focus on the basics. Set a budget before heading to the golf store so that you don't go beyond what you wanted to spend. When buying golf clubs always buy the best set of clubs that fit your budget. It is typically better to purchase a smaller set of better-made golf clubs than to buy a large set of cheaper models. Remember that a good set of golf clubs will last a lifetime. You can always add more clubs to your set as you become better at the game.

Once you have your clubs and you're out on the course it may be hard to figure out which club to use when. The face of the golf club slants more or is more on an angle, the higher the club number. The more the angle, the less distance the ball will go. Use this chart to determine average distances for the various clubs. Try your clubs at the driving range to see what your actual distances are.

Club - Distance:

Driver 200 - 230 yards
3-Wood 180 - 210 yards
2-Iron - 190 yards
3-Iron - 180 yards
4-Iron - 170 yards
5-Iron - 160 yards
6-Iron - 150 yards
7-Iron - 140 yards
8-Iron - 130 yards
9-Iron - 120 yards
PW - 90 yards (Pitching Wedge)
SW - 80 yards (Sand Wedge)

43 Years Ago Today, We Walked On The Moon

Apollo_11_insigniaAs lovers of technology and slaves to the news cycle, we all get caught up in the next new thing. The cynic in me notes that the 43rd anniversary of the moon landing - an occurrence that changed the course of history with a completeness and intensity that few warmongers have ever been able to induce - is just another moon landing anniversary. It isn't the 25th or the 50th or the 100th. It's just something that happened 43 years ago today at about 8pm UTC. In short, two men - born helpless as the rest of us - through time, training, and sheer will, were thrust into space by the greatest minds of our generation and then stepped onto a lunar soil that the New York Times reported as being fine and powdery. Why, then, commemorate this date? Because, aside from World War II, the space race was the thing that put us firmly on the path of technological advancement we are taking today. Had we not dared when we did, at a time when our technology was woefully primitive, I wager that we would still today think the moon and the stars were out of reach.

US economic data add to signs of slowing recovery

(AP) ? A raft of economic news Thursday sketched a picture of a weakening U.S. economy held back by sluggish home buying and factory production.

Americans bought fewer homes in June than in May. Manufacturing in the Federal Reserve's Philadelphia region contracted for a third straight month this month. And a gauge of future U.S. economic activity fell in June.

The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits rose 34,000 last week. Normally, that would signal an increase in layoffs. But the figure was skewed higher by seasonal factors that made it hard to tell whether the job market might be worsening.

The government tries to adjust its unemployment benefits data to reflect temporary summertime layoffs in the auto industry. But this year, many automakers skipped those shutdowns to keep up with demand. That led to fewer layoffs, which the Labor Department didn't anticipate.

Once those statistical distortions fade, Joshua Shapiro, chief U.S. economist at MFR Inc., wrote in a note to clients, "we suspect that the data will point to a soggy labor market."

The economy is struggling to generate enough growth to boost hiring and consumer spending from subpar levels.

Job growth slowed to 75,000 a month from April through June, down from healthy 226,000 pace in the first three months of the year. Unemployment is stuck at 8.2 percent.

On Wednesday, a survey by the Fed said hiring was "tepid" in most of its districts in June and early July. And manufacturing weakened in most regions.

Retail sales fell in June for the third straight month, the government said this week. That led many economists to downgrade their estimates for growth in the April-June quarter. Many think it will be even slower than the first quarter's scant 1.9 percent annual pace.

The few pieces of good economic news lately have been confined mainly to housing. On Wednesday, for example, the government said builders broke ground last month on the most homes in nearly four years. Single-family home building rose for a fourth straight month. And permits to build single-family homes hit their highest point since March 2010.

Builder confidence has also risen. And average rates on fixed mortgages fell this week to record lows, mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday. The average on the 30-year loan fell to 3.53 percent, the lowest since long-term mortgages began in the 1950s.

But the National Association of Realtors said Thursday that sales of previously occupied homes fell 5.4 percent from May to June to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.37 million homes. That was the fewest since October.

Compared with a year ago, sales are up 4.5 percent. But the annual sales pace is well below the 6 million that economists consider healthy.

"It is only one month, and the rest of the housing indicators have all continued to show improvement," said Jennifer Lee, senior economist at BMO Capital Markets. "Let's hope this June decline is a blip."

Measures of the overall economy, though, suggest the recovery may be in danger of stalling. The Conference Board's index of leading economic indicators slipped in June. The index fell 0.3 percent after a 0.4 percent increase in May. It had dropped 0.1 percent in April, its first decline in seven months.

Six of the 10 components of the board's index fell last month. The biggest driver was an index of new orders.

Average consumer expectations also declined. So did building permits, stock prices and orders for long-lasting factory goods excluding defense and aircraft ? a measure of business investment. And average applications for unemployment benefits rose.

"The U.S. economy is growing very slowly," said Ken Goldstein, an economist with the Conference Board.

The leading indicators index "is pointing to no strengthening over the next few months, as the economy continues to sail through strong headwinds domestically and internationally," he said.

Marissa Mayer should focus Yahoo on mobile - Know Your Cell

Marissa Mayer is now the CEO of Yahoo and she's facing a Herculean task if she wants the site to be as successful as her former company, Google. In a bit of unsolicited advice, I firmly believe that Yahoo needs to reposition itself as a strong mobile company in order to thrive.?

"I look forward to working with the Company's dedicated employees to bring innovative products, content, and personalized experiences to users and advertisers all around the world," Mayer said in a press release.?

Yahoo's new CEO will definitely take some time to assess what the company does right, but it needs to make a big move in mobile quickly.?There's a great idea that I first heard about on the MacBreak Weekly: partner with Apple to make Yahoo an important part of iOS.?

You can already make Yahoo (which is now powered by Microsoft's Bing), the default search engine on your iPhone or iPad but you have to dig through your settings to do it. Google is the default search engine in Safari and it's very poweful to be the default. We all know that mobile Web and search traffic is on the rise and iOS dominates the market share for mobile browsing.?

A switch to Yahoo as the default would immediately give Yahoo a larger presence in the lives of tech-savvy customers, and the Bing-powered search is actually pretty good, so Apple wouldn't be sacrificing the user's experience. This could also let Apple deal a blow to Google on top of the fact that it will be switching away from Google Maps with iOS 6.?

Getting on iOS would be amazing but it's easier said than done, so Mayer needs to make sure Yahoo has a strong multi-platform mobile strategy that encompasses HTML5 and native apps.

I really think IntoNow is a great app that turns your phone or tablet into a companion for watching TV, and it just needs some nurturing. Big, tent-pole shows like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones have garnered enough attention to warrant individual apps, but I think there's room for IntoNow to tap into that zeitgeist.?

Yahoo also has some other interesting properties that could really resonate in the mobile space. While photo-sharing sites like Instagram sold for $1 billion, Yahoo let Flickr wither on the vine. Photo sharing is an important part of the mobile experience, so Yahoo needs to make Flickr cool again by making the apps slick and fun to use.?

Are you ready for some football? I know millions of people are, and many of those will use Yahoo's service for fantasy foodball, but there's not a native iPhone app for that yet. You can still access your fantasy football from mobile, but creating a great native app would drive up engagement and make millions of football fans happy.?

Making a bigger push into mobile doesn't mean just throwing everything against the wall and hoping things stick. I'm sure that Mayer will take a close look at what apps are out there and see what deserves to be cut. I recommend axing the Axis browser -- it's more of a tech demo than anything else.?

Mayer is facing a tough row to hoe and Yahoo may be too far gone to save. But it has its best shot by becoming a true mobile company.?
